Mar 28, 05 My Mind Is Swimming

I was up in the 4 o'clock hour this morning. As I get older, I seem to require less sleep than I did when I was younger. You would think it would be the opposite. Since I work for myself, I can get up when I want, but I am almost always up by 6:30 a.m. and often before between 4 and 6 a.m.. Sharon sleeps in until the alarm goes off at 6:30 or when I get around to waking her if the alarm is not set.

The Irving Johnson running aground has my head spinning in a thousand directions. For about the last 5 years I have told Sharon on a regular basis, "I wish I could make a living selling my pictures". HOWEVER, I never looked into it. HEY! There is good money in photographs. I was talking with profession photographers and it has piqued my interest enough to start researching it on the internet.

I think I will print an 8x10 of one of my pictures similar to the one below and see how it looks on paper instead of computer screen glass.

I guess selling photographs is like the "starving artist" thing. A few make good money and the rest do it for fun and live in cheap single room studio apartments. Luckily I do not have to make a living do it. I could just have fun and try to sell some of my pictures. If it works, wonderful. If it does not, I have a lot of beautiful pictures as memories of the places I go and things I see.

Do you have a quality digital camera? Do you need to supplement your full-timing income? Why not do a Google search for selling photographs? You never know, something you read may just click for you. With digital photography there is no film expense. The cost of storing pictures on CD's is very small. I'd recommend a 5 megapixel camera, but even a 3 megapixel may get you started if that is what you have. If this interests you even a little, start taking lots of pictures of anything and everything, even with your current digital camera.

Over the last five years I have pictures of grass, rocks, tree bark as well as events, scenery and people. I just like taking pictures. Do you? Again, this is not a get rich quick scheme. It is a possibility of making extra income on the road. Something to think about.

Since you are traveling in your motorhome, you are seeing and experiencing things many others only dream of. Maybe someone could live vicariously through your pictures. Maybe you could take "Ansel Adams" quality pictures. NO WAY! you say? Do you know that famous photographer take hundreds of pictures and often thousands in a month. Supposedly Ansel Adams said that if he got one good photograph a month he was lucky. What this means to you is that if you take lots of pictures, you will get lucky once in a while, just like Adams. His claim to fame was he published his pictures. Right now yours are only sitting on a shelf in a dust covered album.

Haven't you had someone look at one of your pictures and say, "You should enter that one in a photo contest"? I am trying to get you thinking. There are other ways than workcamping to make it on the road. Nothing wrong with workamping. It has a lot of advantages, but there are other income options for full-timers.
