One big problem in motorhomes is keeping the carpet clean. This is especially true in rainy weather. Whether it is mud, dirt sand or other debris that is stuck to shoes, it all makes a mess. There are a number of answers to keeping your RV carpet cleaner.
One is to take your shoes off before you enter your RV. This is fine in dry weather, but when it is storming outside this is usually not an option.
You can put a towel down over the steps when there is mud and dirt to contend with. This is a common way to keep dirt out. This worked well for us, but an old pink towel on beige carpet looked rather tacky.
Our Bounder motorhome has entry step sized pieces of carpet placed over the regular carpet. These pieces are securely attached. In theory I guess we can replace them when they get dirty. I don't know whether they came with the RV or were added by a previous owner.
We found an excellent solution. Buy a 24 inch wide carpet runner and put it over the steps. You can match the color to your RV color scheme. To keep the rug tight and keep it from slipping all over the place buy refrigerator expansion rods and put them in the steps back side as displayed in the picture below.
We used oak cupboard bars be bought at Camping World. You can get them by clicking this link Oak Cupboard Bar, 3-pack - 16" to 28" Be sure you get ones that fit the 24 inch wide step.
You now have an easy to clean entry rug. It looks nice and keeps mud and dirt off of your nice carpet. We have a matching runner in our kitchen area which is also carpeted. Carpet in a kitchen gets all kinds of spills on it. The carpet runner solved that problem.
